July 16–17, 2011 Jones Cup (Father/Son)

On July 16 and 17, Colonial Williamsburg honors the architects of the Golden Horseshoe Golf Courses with the Jones Cup Father and Son Tournament. Named in honor of the legendary golf course architects who designed the Colonial Williamsburg courses—Robert Trent Jones Sr. and son Rees Jones—the Jones Cup is the Golden Horseshoe's oldest annual competition.

Entry deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, July 11.

The 36-hole twosome Jones Cup tournament uses a modified alternate shot format for the final round. To be eligible, teams must be made up of father and son, stepfather and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson. Each player must have a USGA handicap index, or verification in writing from his home club. Entry fee is $480 per team, which includes a welcome packet, golf and cart for both rounds; one practice round (available July 11–15, cart not included); use of practice facility prior to each round; and a Saturday cookout following the first round.

A 9 a.m. shotgun start will begin play both days. Saturday’s first round format is twosome better ball on the Green Course, designed by Rees Jones and celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, with Sunday’s alternate shot round on the Gold Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
