Governor's Palace

Tour the elegant and imposing residence of seven royal governors. From the weaponry display in the entrance hall to the royal portraits in the ballroom, the Governor's Palace was meant to impress the colonists and visitors with the prestige and power of the king's representative in Virginia. See demonstrations of high cooking arts in the Palace Kitchen and enjoy a stroll through the formal garden or terraces.

At the Palace Garden, explore several acres of beautiful gardens. Visit the kitchen to see demonstrations of 18th-century cooking techniques.

Watch the wheelwright. In the 18th century, there was a demand for wheeled vehicles of every kind—wheelbarrows, riding chairs, carriages, and carts. Today, the wheelwrights construct and repair the vehicles used throughout the Historic Area, from riding chairs to cannon carriages.
