African American Interpretation
Following their 1619 introduction to Virginia, free and enslaved blacks gradually became rooted in every level of colonial society. In farms, taverns, and skilled trades, the capability and determination of African Americans was the epitome of the American character, and the bedrock of its success.

Historic Triangle

Colonial Williamsburg is open 365 days a year, but daily schedules vary, and may be subject to weather. British flags will indicate open exhibition areas.

Accessibility
A limited number of folding wheelchairs are rented on a first-come, first-served basis from the Visitor Center. Ramps and wheelchair lifts are available at selected sites, but many buildings require a few steps.

At the Visitor Center, buy your ticket, and pick up a free copy of our weekly program guide and map, "This Week." From here, catch a bus, or start your walk to the Historic Area. A limited number of folding wheelchairs are available for rent.

Since 1957, Colonial Williamsburg visitors have begun their experience with "The Story of a Patriot," and you should, too. This short film has acclimated more than 30 million guests to the rumbling climate of revolutionary Virginia.

Tickets are required to enter exhibit sites and museums in Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area. A variety of ticket options are available to suit your stay. Tickets aren't necessary to visit retail stores and restaurants.
