The Kimball Theatre

Located in Merchants Square, the Kimball Theatre is home to current films and live performances. On any given day, you might see a Colonial Williamsburg interpreter portray Patrick Henry or enjoy a jazz ensemble of talented students from the College of William and Mary. Perhaps the Peninsula’s Jewish Film Festival is in town, or maybe you’ll see players performing an 18th-century Grand Medley of Entertainments. Whatever your tastes, the Kimball Theatre is at the center of Williamsburg’s community activities. Creative programming alliances with the College of William and Mary, community organizations, and Colonial Williamsburg link our past with the present.

Shows may sell out in advance. Please call 1-800-447-8679 to confirm availability.

Being Flynn

May 24, 2012 4:45 PM

Rated: R

Being Flynn is the new dramatic feature from Academy Award-nominated writer/director Paul Weitz (About a Boy). Adapted from Nick Flynn’s 2004 memoir Another Bulls—t Night in Suck City, the movie explores bonds both unbreakable and fragile between parent and child. Nick Flynn (Paul Dano—Little Miss Sunshine, There Will be Blood) is a young writer seeking to define himself. He misses his late mother, Jody (Julianne Moore), and her loving nature. But his father, Jonathan (Robert DeNiro), is not even a memory, as Nick has not seen the man in 18 years. Jonathan impulsively reaches out to Nick, and the two come face-to-face. To give the two of them a shot at a real future, Nick will have to decide whom to seek redemption for first: himself or his father.

Evocatively told, ruefully funny, and moving in its depiction of the ties that bind, Being Flynn tells a story that reveals universal truths.

May 23-24, 26, 28–29 screening room. 102 mins.

The Walking Statue, or The Devil in the Wine Cellar

May 24, 2012 7:30 PM

What do you do when your true love's father stands in the way of your romance? Send in your servant to do your dirty work, of course! This fast-paced farce full of disguises, deceptions and devils has entertained audiences on both sides of the Atlantic since 1710, and is sure to delight you with all the historically accurate costumes, sets, and occasionally bawdy wordplay that makes an evening at the 18th-century theater so much fun.

Tickets $18 for adults and youth (ages 6–17); $9 for children 5 and under.
