You don’t need a reservation to step into our authentic 18th-century alehouse. Order from our all day fare menu and catch up on the town gossip with a bottle of root beer, glass of wine, or mug of ale—including our historic brews. When the weather’s nice, take your drinks and conversation outside, under the arbor!
Every day starting at 5 p.m. while dining, join in a Chowning’s tradition of colonial drinks, colonial games, and live colonial songs – including bawdy ones, if no children are around!
Chowning’s Tavern is located at 109 E. Duke of Gloucester St. in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area. Free parking is available in the tavern parking lot located on Francis Street just west of Blair Street any time, or after 5 p.m. in the employee parking lot located on Franklin Street just east of Botetourt Street, accessible from Lafayette Street.
