You're invited to go back in time and enlist in the Virginia State Garrison Regiment in 1778. Sign your name in the regimental daybook, meet your sergeant on your first day of training, receive your orders, and get assigned living quarters. Watch demonstrations of loading and firing the cannon. Learn to march and to practice the musket exercise. Live the life of a Continental soldier! Recommended for ages 7-12. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Walk in Thomas Jefferson’s footsteps and stand where he stood. Embark on a guided walking tour of the town and visit the sites Jefferson knew as a student at the college of Williams and Mary, studying the law with George Wythe, or meeting with the Royal Governor and other sites Mr. Jefferson would have known as a young man. This 90 minute walking tour will take you to several sites in the city. Students 18 or under must be accompanied by a ticketed adult with a Homeschool Admission Pass and a special program ticket.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math…important subjects today, vitally important in Williamsburg in the 1770s as well. The 90 minute guided walking tour will explore trades shops and homes across the city to discover and to compare and contrast technology then and now. Students and families are invited on a private guided tour of the Capitol Building, where they will elect their own Burgess member, witness the birth of Independence at the fifth Virginia Convention, and learn about the structure of Colonial government and how we adapted to a new nation. Students and their families are invited on a private tour of the Governors Palace, the seat of the British Authority in the colony. Learn about what it meant to be British and how the Revolution affected the Royal Governor and his young family. This hour long experience is tailored specifically for home educators. This immersive, interactive experience will allow you to understand how education provided children the tools necessary to navigate the complex world of Williamsburg. Come hear some of the fairy stories (known as pretty tales in the 1770s) Mrs. Clementina Rind tells her children and learn about other children's stories published in the time. Discover the moral lessons and participate in creating your own pretty tale! Geared to 3 years to 11 years old.
Learn about the things which have shaped Martha Washington as a wife and mother. Learn about how she taught her children the expectations of the good manners and the proper deportment when socializing, taking tea, or even learning to step a dance! Geared to ages 8 years to 15 years old.
